FAILSWORTH MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES
A man from Failsworth named Wayne Coley has been found guilty of two separate incidents involving sexual assault and assault by physical violence.Although he was warned about potential imprisonment after slapping a woman on her backside, he ultimately avoided being jailed.
At Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court, Coley, aged 37, received two concurrent 18-month community orders for his criminal actions related to sexual assault and battery.
He is also required to register on the sex offenders registry for a period of five years and to complete up to 30 days of supervised rehabilitation.
The first incident involved Coley slapping a 34-year-old woman near Manchester Piccadilly, where she was standing with her partner; she described his intense and humiliating glare as 'chilling' and 'demeaning,' which left her feeling shocked and intimidated.
A police officer present at the scene witnessed the assault.
The second incident occurred the following day when Coley was convicted of grabbing a 25-year-old woman by the shoulder after she got off a bus in the city center, and the victim was assisted by her father to point out Coley to police.
In addition, Coley previously received a suspended one-month prison sentence for possessing an image that depicted sexual acts involving a live snake.
During court proceedings, concerns about his mental health were raised, with his solicitor indicating that there had been some improvements.
Coley, who is currently receiving benefits, was ordered to pay £200 in compensation to each victim in weekly installments.
