VINCENT BASKERVILLE SENTENCED IN LEIGH FOR SIX YEARS OF SEXUAL ABUSE

In a case that has shocked the community of Leigh, a man identified as Vincent Baskerville has been sentenced to prison for a prolonged period after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl over a span of six years.

Vincent Baskerville, aged 64 and residing on Union Street in Leigh, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court where he received a custodial sentence of five years and four months. The court also mandated that he register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities following his release.

Baskerville had previously pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assault during an earlier hearing, which paved the way for the sentencing. The abuse reportedly began in 2004, with the victim, a young girl, eventually summoning the courage to contact the police and disclose the details of her ordeal. Her report led to Baskerville’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Detective Constable Paolo Dale, who is part of the Wigan Public Protection Investigation Unit, expressed his commendation for the victim’s bravery. He stated, “This woman has been incredibly brave by coming forward, helping us put Baskerville through the court process and putting him behind bars.” He emphasized the importance of reporting sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed, encouraging others who might be in similar situations to come forward.
