CROYDON STALKER TRAVELLED 240 MILES TO STAB EX
Viet Tran, aged 22 and residing on Leigh Crescent in New Addington, travelled approximately 240 miles to commit an assault on his former girlfriend and her date, having used the dark web to track her location. On the early morning of August 4 the previous year, a Vietnamese couple was on their first date in Manchester City Centre when a man used UV paint to temporarily blind them before proceeding to stab both individuals.
The male victim described feeling certain he was on the verge of death at the moment he was stabbed.
Initially, the attack seemed to be a random act of violence, but investigators soon determined that Tran was behind it, having carefully planned his journey to Manchester solely for this purpose.
According to police reports, Tran’s actions were driven by an obsession stemming from the end of their relationship.
He had paid someone on the dark web to hack her phone, enabling him to monitor her messages and whereabouts.
Tran was convicted of Section 18 and Section 20 assault charges and received a 13-year prison sentence.
