VICTOR JACOB'S SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN BROMLEY AND MACCLESFIELD LEAD TO 25-YEAR SENTENCE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Bromley and Macclesfield, Victor Jacob, a former scout leader and school caretaker, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 25 years for a series of heinous sexual offences involving young boys. The crimes span a period from October 1979 to May 2007, during which Jacob exploited his positions of trust to commit multiple acts of abuse.
Jacob, aged 76 and residing on Balmoral Crescent in Macclesfield, was brought before Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, September 24.
The court heard how he was found guilty after a rigorous five-week trial of a total of 36 separate offences.
These included numerous counts of indecent assault on boys under the age of 16, as well as charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual acts with a minor, and acts of indecency involving children.
In addition to the prison sentence, Jacob was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at restricting his contact with minors and preventing further offences.
The court proceedings revealed that Jacob’s misconduct occurred at various locations, including the school in Bromley where he worked as a caretaker and groundsman, and through his role as a scout leader, which brought him into contact with the victims.
The victims, all boys aged 11 and above, were targeted at different times and under different circumstances.
The grooming process involved Jacob gaining their trust over time, which he then exploited to carry out his sexual abuse.
The nature of the offences was particularly disturbing, given the vulnerability of the young boys and the breach of trust involved.
The investigation into Jacob’s actions was initiated in 2017 when three men independently came forward to police, alleging that they had been abused by him during their childhoods.
This led detectives from the South East Public Protection Team to launch a comprehensive inquiry.
As the investigation progressed, two additional victims were identified, bringing the total number of victims to five.
Victor Jacob was formally interviewed under caution in February 2018.
Following the investigation, he was charged via postal requisition in October 2019.
The case’s culmination in a conviction and a substantial prison sentence underscores the seriousness of his crimes and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from predators like him.
