VEROL WYNER FROM CRAWLEY AND HACKNEY JAILED FOR HUMILIATING SEX ATTACKS ON TEENAGE GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Crawley and Hackney, Verol Wynter, a man with connections to both areas, has been sentenced to prison for a series of deeply disturbing sexual assaults on a teenage girl.The incidents, which took place over a period when the victim was between 14 and 16 years old, involved Wynter grooming and manipulating her in a manner that the court described as humiliating and abusive.
Wynter, who was unemployed at the time of his sentencing, appeared before Brighton Crown Court on Thursday, May 12.
The court had previously found him guilty in February after a trial that revealed the extent of his misconduct.
The charges he faced included three counts of sexual assault, which were considered specimen counts representing multiple assaults carried out over time.
The judge sentenced Wynter to three years for each count, but since these sentences are to be served concurrently, he will spend a total of three years behind bars.
Originally residing on Chippendale Road in Broadfield, Crawley, Wynter has since moved to Brooke Road in Hackney, East London.
His actions during the period of the assaults demonstrated a pattern of coercion and control, exploiting the victim’s vulnerability to carry out the humiliating acts.
The court described his behavior as grooming, an abuse of trust, and manipulative, with the repeated assaults having a profound psychological impact on the young girl.
As part of his sentence, Wynter will be subject to lifelong registration as a sex offender.
Additionally, he was issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes strict restrictions on his access to children and aims to prevent any further harm.
It is important to note that Wynter was acquitted of a separate count of sexual assault on the same girl and also found not guilty of ten other sexual assault charges involving a different girl, which spanned from 2001 to 2009.
The victim’s bravery in coming forward and providing evidence was crucial in securing the conviction.
The court emphasized that Wynter’s conduct was not only abusive but also a gross violation of trust, with the repeated assaults causing significant emotional and psychological damage to the victim.
The sentencing reflects the severity of his actions and the ongoing need to protect vulnerable individuals from such predatory behavior.
