DOMESTIC ABUSER JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON WOMAN
A man from Crawley, known for domestic violence, has been sentenced to prison for attacking a woman he knew.Tiago Nunes, aged 28, prevented the victim from leaving their home and subjected her to physical violence.
During the assault, he struck her, damaged her phone, and choked her.
The woman reported the attack to authorities.
These offences violated a suspended prison sentence Nunes was serving for causing grievous bodily harm without intent.
At Lewes Crown Court on 15 April, Nunes pleaded guilty to charges of actual bodily harm and to possessing a weapon in a public place.
The court heard that on 15 March 2024, Nunes, possibly under the influence of drugs, made insulting remarks to the victim.
He smashed walls and a radiator, injuring himself and requiring hospital care.
Upon returning home, he refused to let the woman leave.
He then followed her around their home and assaulted her, choking her in the bedroom.
Earlier, Nunes was convicted of attacking a man outside the Medusa bar in Crawley at 3 am on 21 August 2022, an incident that left the victim unconscious and with a brain bleed.
Additionally, on 7 June last year, police apprehended Nunes after he was seen chasing another man while wielding a metal bar.
He received a five-year prison sentence.
