A convicted sex offender has been given a final chance to avoid jail.
Twenty-four-year-old Tyler Roberts - who suffers from severe learning disabilities - appeared in court on Wednesday (November 19), where he pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with the sex offenders’ register.
But after hearing how jail would leave the Sutton Bridge resident ‘extremely open to exploitation’, Boston magistrates offered the defendant the opportunity to maintain his liberty by handing him an eight-month sentence suspended for 12 months.
“Please just behave,” chair of the bench Julie Nuttall told him during sentencing.
Roberts - who was convicted of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child and making indecent images of children in August 2023 - breached his sexual harm prevention order between August 10 and September 18 of this year.
Monitoring software, installed on his phone as part of the order, found WhatsApp messages of the defendant asking the recipient to show him pictures of a child during a video call, prosecutor Jade Salter explained.
