TREVOR QUICK FROM GRANTHAM SENTENCED FOR INTERNET GROOMING AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN HEREFORDSHIRE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community, Trevor Quick, a 42-year-old man residing on Dexter Avenue in Grantham, has been convicted and sentenced for serious offenses involving the grooming of a minor and the possession of indecent images. The incident unfolded after Quick engaged in an online chat with a 15-year-old girl from Herefordshire, falsely claiming to be 20 years old. Over a span of two weeks, he persistently communicated with her, urging her to send increasingly explicit photographs of herself. This disturbing pattern of grooming culminated in Quick traveling from his previous residence in Newark to meet the girl in person on January 10.According to the prosecution, led by Jos Thomas, Quick’s intentions became evident when he drove down to Herefordshire with the apparent aim of meeting the girl. However, the plan was thwarted when the girl confided in a friend about the situation. When they went to meet Quick, they were taken aback by his appearance and age, which did not match his online persona. The girl’s friend and her father then alerted the authorities, leading to Quick being found sitting in his car. When approached, Quick claimed he was waiting for a job interview and quickly drove away from the scene.
Further investigations revealed that Quick had a history of similar offenses. In December 2009, he was charged with possession and making indecent images. Police had acted on anonymous tips indicating that Quick was attempting to contact young girls via the internet. During a search of his computer, authorities discovered a disturbing collection of digital material, including 388 extreme bestiality images, six of which were videos. Additionally, there were 35 images of children, including four videos, stored on his device. The court was also informed that Quick had previous convictions related to the possession and distribution of indecent images, some involving children of relatives.
During the court proceedings, the defense, represented by Michael Cogan, acknowledged that Quick had pleaded guilty despite knowing the likely outcome of imprisonment. Cogan described Quick as a lonely individual who viewed pornography as an addiction and a misguided form of escape. He emphasized that Quick had sought help in the past but had failed, and suggested that custody might offer him an opportunity for treatment. The judge, Judge Picton, expressed concern about the risk of re-offending, noting the severity of the charges but also considering the appropriate sentence length. Ultimately, Quick was sentenced to two years in prison for the grooming offenses, with an additional four months to be served consecutively for the possession of indecent images. As part of his sentence, Quick will also be required to register as a sex offender, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing threat to the community.
