MAN JAILED AT LINCOLN CROWN COURT FOR MAKING THREATS TO KILL WOMAN AND HER CHILDREN
A man responsible for a prolonged campaign of stalking that caused a woman to endure a traumatic experience has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.Paul Jones, aged 33, issued death threats to the woman and her children after insisting she leave her current partner.
The court in Lincoln was told on Monday, May 19, that Jones had developed an obsession with the woman following social media interactions.
Prosecutor Phil Howes revealed that Jones sent the woman hundreds of messages, including a holiday countdown that contained violent threats and warnings that the 'Christmas clock was ticking.' He also stated that Jones had said, 'I will have nothing to lose, I will chop you up myself,' and urged her to dump her boyfriend, warning that he could kill her instantly.
Jones further claimed to possess a machete, which he threatened to use against the woman and her children.
The court was informed that Jones was detained at a residence in Grantham on January 2.
During questioning, he denied making any threats.
In her victim impact statement read aloud in court, she described her life as a 'living nightmare' at that time, expressing ongoing fears that Jones might track her down after serving time and mentioning she had been compelled to change her residence.
Jones, who has no fixed address, had been on remand for several months.
He admitted to two counts of stalking between December 23, 2024, and January 2, 2025, a third count of sending death threats over six months, and a fourth charge related to sharing an intimate video.
The court noted that Jones is now sober and acknowledged the suffering he had inflicted.
Judge Simon Hirst, sentencing him, criticised Jones’s conduct as 'wholly disgraceful,' emphasising that he was in constant contact with the woman and posed a threat to her and her children.
A restraining order was imposed permanently barring Jones from contacting the victim or her children.
