FORMER TEACHER AND COMMUNITY LEADER CHARGED WITH RAPE AND ASSAULT IN DERRY
Tony Crowe, aged 52, a former teacher and prominent member of the Apprentice Boys, has been formally charged and is now being prepared for trial on multiple counts of serious sexual offences. The charges include three counts of rape and three counts of indecent assault involving a girl at Templemore Secondary School in Derry.
Crowe appeared at preliminary hearings in Derry Magistrate's Court where the court confirmed that a prima facie case had been established, a fact that Crowe did not dispute.
When asked if he wished to call witnesses or make a statement, Crowe declined.
He is scheduled to be tried at Derry Crown Court on a date that has yet to be fixed.
Previously, during bail proceedings in March, local politicians Ken Maginnis MP and Chris McGimpsey acted as sureties for his release.
The case has garnered significant local attention given Crowe’s standing in the community.
