NORWICH MAN SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR RAPE
A man named Tobias Grayston, aged 26 and residing on Music House Lane in Norwich, was convicted of raping a woman in her own home and has been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison. The case was heard at Norwich Crown Court, where Grayston was found guilty after a five-day trial that concluded on July 8.
The jury was convinced by the evidence, including testimony from the victim, who knew Grayston personally.
The incident involved Grayston contacting the victim via a messaging app using false pretenses, engaging her in conversation, and convincing her to meet elsewhere.
Instead of meeting as planned, Grayston went to her house, restrained her by tying her up, released her, and then proceeded to commit the rape along with additional sexual assaults.
The victim's bravery in providing her account helped authorities arrest Grayston the same day.
Grayston refused to answer police questions during interrogation and chose not to be cross-examined at trial.
The jury unanimously convicted him of rape.
As a result, Grayston was sentenced to 13 years in custody, with a further three years on licence after release.
Additionally, he has been mandated to register as a sex offender for life.
Detective Constable Sorrell from the Rape Investigation Unit commented on the case, emphasizing the offenders' use of social media to target victims and commending the victim's courage.
He also highlighted the importance of online safety and assured victims that support is available through organizations like The Harbour Centre.
