TIMOTHY PEEL NORWICH POLICE OFFICER SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN NORWICH
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community, Timothy Peel, a former police officer from Norwich, has been convicted and sentenced for possessing and creating indecent images of children.The incident, which has severely tarnished Peel’s reputation and career, highlights the ongoing issues of misconduct within law enforcement agencies.
Back in May 2015, Peel’s residence was subjected to a police search following suspicions related to his online activities.
During this search, officers uncovered a disturbing collection of digital material, including five indecent images and one extreme pornographic image stored on his computer.

Initially, Peel, aged 37 at the time, faced three charges at Ipswich Magistrates Court in June 2016.
These charges included possession of an extreme pornographic image, possession of an indecent image of a child, and the making of an indecent image of a child.
Despite denying all allegations, the magistrates found him guilty after a one-day trial.
The evidence against him was compelling, with the seized computer clearly displaying the illicit material.
Peel’s role as a police constable based at Wymondham Police Station added a layer of betrayal to the case, as he was expected to uphold the law and protect the vulnerable.
Following his arrest, he was suspended from duty, and internal disciplinary procedures were initiated.

In October 2016, Peel appeared before magistrates for sentencing.
His legal representative, Dave Foulkes, painted a bleak picture of Peel’s life post-arrest, stating, “It is fairly evident Mr Peel’s life is in tatters.
He’s having to start again effectively.
He’s lost his career.
He’s lost his good character.
He is financially ruined.
His marriage is over.” During the sentencing hearing, the court was informed that Peel would serve a suspended prison sentence of one year, which would not be activated unless he committed further offenses within the next two years.
Additionally, Peel was ordered to complete a 60-day rehabilitation program and participate in an internet sex offenders’ treatment scheme.
The court also mandated that he pay costs amounting to £965 and contribute £80 to the victims’ fund.
Furthermore, Peel was placed under a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect indefinitely.
He is also required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
