OFFENDER JAILED FOR 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ST HELENS
A sexual predator who subjected his victim to abuse over a period of eight years has been sentenced to prison following a police investigation.Thomas Suffler, aged 50, from Fry Street, was jailed for 18 years after being found guilty of multiple charges which include three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.
The offences took place in St Helens between 2008 and 2016, and his victim came forward to authorities, leading to his conviction.
Suffler's crimes were initially denied, requiring a trial where the jury ultimately saw through his deception.
He has also been ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Detective Inspector Leanne Toole emphasized that the police will pursue justice regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes, praising the bravery of the victim for coming forward.
She stated, 'I hope the sentencing of Suffler shows that time is no barrier in reporting offences to Merseyside Police and we will take every report extremely seriously, regardless of when it occurred.' She further commended the victim's determination, saying, 'I would like to commend the victim for coming forward and reporting the heinous crimes committed by Suffler.
