MAN JAILED AFTER ST HELENS ASSAULT LEFT VICTIM NEEDING METAL PLATE
A judge said the public is “fed up and revolted” by street violence as he jailed Thomas Quinn for an assault that resulted in the victim needing a metal plate fitted.Quinn, with a “bad record” including previous convictions for violence and serving prison terms for assault, robbery, possession of a knife, and threats to kill, used “excessive self-defence” in an attack where he threw two forceful punches on a former colleague.
The incident happened near Asda on Kirkland Street, in St Helens, in the early hours of June 23 last year.
Quinn admitted to “two punches and further retaliation”.
The victim suffered fractures to his lower jaw and around three weeks later required surgery to insert a metal plate after attending Aintree Hospital.
Quinn was arrested in July and gave “no comment” answers.
His sentence was reduced due to his guilty plea and recent custody, resulting in a 12-month prison sentence, of which he must serve 40%.
A restraining order was deemed unnecessary as it was unlikely he would encounter the victim again.
