BLACKPOOL PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR SIX YEARS AFTER ABUSING 14-YEAR-OLD
A Blackpool man who repeatedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl has been jailed for six years.Thomas Parkin was arrested after the girl’s mother discovered he had been engaging in sexual activity with her.
Over a five-month period, Parkin had sex with the girl on at least 10 occasions.
At Preston Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to eight offences, including six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and two counts of encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity.
The court heard that during police interviews, Parkin initially claimed the victim had consented, but the charges were later amended.
Prosecutor Kim Whittlestone described how, during police questioning, the girl was quiet and withdrawn, revealing that sexual contact had happened on multiple occasions, with Parkin buying her phone credit, arranging meetings, and deleting messages.
She stated that he had sex with her approximately five times, which she said made her sad and affected her schoolwork.
She confided in a friend, leading her to tell authorities.
Parkin's previous conviction was for a dishonesty matter, and a probation report referenced an incident where he contacted a girl but was not charged.
During sentencing, the judge emphasized the severity of his actions, stating, “This played itself out through your actions, for you are responsible, she being a minor.” The judge also noted that Parkin faced an immediate and significant custodial sentence, and he was sentenced to six years in prison.
Parkin appeared in court on his 32nd birthday, and the court emphasized that no sentence could undo what had been done."
