MANCHESTER POLICE WORKER PLEADS GUILTY TO CREATING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
According to Greater Manchester Police, a civilian staff member has admitted to creating indecent images of children.
The suspect, Thomas O'Connor, aged 19, was taken into custody in February following information received from the National Crime Agency.
O'Connor, who was suspended from his role as a civilian employee of GMP, entered a guilty plea at Tameside Magistrates’ Court and remains detained as he awaits sentencing.
His court appearance is scheduled for 7 July at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
GMP officials confirmed that, to date, there is no evidence linking O'Connor to any interactions with police officers or members of the public during his employment.
The force's representative described the charges as 'obviously concerning' and expressed concern over the potential erosion of public trust caused by such misconduct.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Jones added, “We recognize how such cases can damage confidence in the police.” The investigation is ongoing.
Authorities made clear that O'Connor was not an active police officer but a civilian staff member.
The incident highlights the critical importance of maintaining high ethical standards within law enforcement bodies and the serious implications when those standards are violated.
