TAKEAWAY TERROR: DELIVERY DRIVER ‘GRABBED AND KISSED WOMAN ON DOORSTEP’ BEFORE DENYING SEX ASSAULT IN COURT FOR SENTENCING
A food courier from Manchester carried out a sexual assault on a woman at her front door moments after handing over her takeaway, a court was told.Rana Jahangir approached the woman from behind, wrapped his arms around her and began kissing her without consent, according to police evidence.
The victim repeatedly told him to stop, yet the incident continued for more than a minute.
She initially raised the matter with the delivery firm rather than contacting officers.
After later discussing the incident with friends, she decided to report it.
Jahangir, 25, of Collington Close, Longsight, was subsequently arrested.
The assault occurred on Shipbrook Road in Rudheath, Cheshire, in September last year.
During questioning, he claimed the interaction had been consensual.
However, part of the incident had been captured on a mobile phone without his knowledge.
Even after being confronted with the footage, he maintained his denial and pleaded not guilty to sexual assault when the case proceeded to trial.
Today, following a trial at Chester Crown Court, he was found guilty and jailed for two years and four months.
He has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and given a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
Speaking after the case Det Con Sarah Ollier, said: "Even when we presented him with the mobile phone footage, he continued to deny the allegations, claiming that the victim had set him up.
Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies, and he has been held accountable for his actions." "I welcome the sentenced handed to Jahangir and I hope that it provides some reassurance to the victim.
We will continue to do all we can to tackle any incident of violence against women and take all reports of such crimes extremely seriously and will investigate thoroughly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice."
