THOMAS KAILOFER FROM SPENNYMOOR SENTENCED TO OVER 12 YEARS FOR RAPE IN NEWCASTLE CROWN COURT
In January 2019, a man from Spennymoor, Thomas Kailofer, was handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of a serious sexual assault. The incident occurred in his hometown of Spennymoor last July, while he was on licence, adding a layer of complexity to the case.Thomas Kailofer, who resides on Ash Grove in Spennymoor, pleaded guilty to the charge of rape, which took place in his local area. The court proceedings took place at Newcastle Crown Court, where Judge Edward Bindloss presided over the case. During the hearing, the judge described Kailofer as a “dangerous offender,” emphasizing the threat he posed to the community.
The judge sentenced Kailofer to a total of 12 years and ten months in prison, reflecting the gravity of the crime. In addition to the custodial sentence, Kailofer was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. Furthermore, a restraining order was issued in favor of the victim, aiming to prevent any contact or harassment.
Detective Constable Andrea Luck of Durham Constabulary commented on the case, stating, “This was a particularly violent incident that no-one should ever have to go through. The judge recognised the severity of the crime and thankfully he is now serving a lengthy sentence behind bars.” The case underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats sexual offences and the commitment to protecting victims and the wider community from repeat offenders.
