MAN SMASHED MOBILE PHONE OFF GIRLFRIEND'S HEAD
A repeat offender caused injury to his partner shortly after being released from prison for a previous severe assault.Thomas Jenkins, aged 28 and a father, threw his girlfriend’s mobile phone at her head during a cocaine-fueled outburst, resulting in a cut above her eye, the Cardiff Crown Court was told.
Prosecutor Matthew Murphy stated that police were alerted to a neglected 999 emergency call at 3:15am on January 30 from a residence in Blaenymaes, Swansea.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Jenkins' girlfriend, who had a fresh wound above her right eye.
She explained that her injury was caused by Jenkins, who had been intoxicated from alcohol and snorting Class A drugs.
He accused her of infidelity and forcefully threw her phone, damaging the device.
Officers found Jenkins in the bedroom, lying on the bed.
He claimed he had argued with his partner but the issue was resolved.
However, he was arrested.
His account changed after he was in custody; around 4am, he confessed to throwing the phone and expressed remorse.
The woman did not wish to pursue charges, and it is likely they will stay together, although she has been denied visits to see him in detention, according to Jenkins’ solicitor Giles Hayes.
Judge Recorder Andrew Hammond observed that the victim did not support the prosecution case but noted police bodycam footage during which she appeared very distressed and frightened, especially when she opened the front door.
