THOMAS HICKEY FROM LATCHFORD SENTENCED FOR SHAMEFUL SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRLS IN LIVERPOOL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Latchford and the wider Liverpool area, Thomas Hickey, an 84-year-old resident of Grange Avenue, Latchford, has been sentenced to prison following his admission to committing heinous sexual offenses against three young girls. The incidents, which took place over a span of several years, involved indecent touches inflicted upon vulnerable victims who were all under the age of 13.Hickey appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on a recent Friday, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by touching. The court was informed that two of these assaults occurred in May 2017, while the third victim was assaulted several years prior to that date. The details of the case revealed a pattern of predatory behavior, with Hickey allegedly offering sweets and chocolates to his young victims as a means of gaining their trust before committing the sexual offenses.
William Staunton, representing Hickey, stated during the proceedings that his client has been ostracized by his own family and is widely regarded with disgust due to his actions. The court heard harrowing accounts of how Hickey’s manipulative tactics involved luring children with treats, only to subject them to inappropriate and criminal acts.
Judge Birkett, presiding over the case, expressed grave concern over the nature of the offenses. He emphasized that the victims were pre-pubescent girls, highlighting their vulnerability and the profound impact such crimes have on their long-term mental health and trust in others. The judge noted that there was evidence of planning involved in all of the offenses, indicating a calculated approach by Hickey.
As a result of his guilty plea, Hickey was sentenced to three years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his movements post-release. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order, which prohibit Hickey from approaching children or being near locations frequented by minors, such as schools, parks, or residential areas where children under 16 are likely to be present. Furthermore, Hickey is forbidden from approaching any young individuals in public who were not previously known to him, aiming to prevent any future harm.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to protect vulnerable children from predators and to ensure that offenders are held accountable for their actions. The community of Latchford and the wider Liverpool area will undoubtedly remain vigilant in the wake of this disturbing case.
