MAN JAILED FOR 12 YEARS FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN
A man who subjected a woman to sexual assault and deliberately isolated her from her friends and family has received a prison sentence of 12 years.Carl Hughes, residing on Barry Street in Latchford, Warrington, was handed down the sentence on Thursday, 14 May, following his appearance at Chester Crown Court.
The 58-year-old was convicted on four counts of assault by penetration, along with one count of controlling and coercive behaviour.
Beyond the prison term, Hughes is required to register as a sex offender and is under a restraining order.
In June 2022, authorities in Cheshire were alerted to reports of Hughes' sexual misconduct.
The victim, a woman known to Hughes, reported that he frequently visited her residence and committed sexual assaults despite her pleas for him to stop.
She also described his controlling tactics, which included isolating her from her social contacts, verbally abusing her, criticizing her, dictating her choice of clothing, and even trying to prevent her from participating in a charity race.
When Hughes was initially detained in June 2022, law enforcement seized his mobile devices, which contained messages that were abusive towards the victim and her family.
Despite denying the allegations, Hughes was convicted of assault by penetration and controlling behaviour in February 2026.
