THOMAS FERGUSON FROM COLWYN BAY AND MILTON KEYNES SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF SCHOOLGIRL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Colwyn Bay and Milton Keynes, Thomas Ferguson, aged 58, has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to multiple instances of sexual assault involving a young girl under the age of 16.The incident dates back to the years 2008 and 2009, during which Ferguson, a resident of Shackleton Place, Oldbrook, Milton Keynes, engaged in repeated inappropriate conduct towards the girl, who was a minor at the time.
Caernarfon Crown Court heard that Ferguson had sexually abused the girl on several occasions in Colwyn Bay, a seaside town in North Wales.
The court was informed that Ferguson pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child under 16, acknowledging his actions but offering no clear explanation for his behavior.
During the proceedings, Ferguson stated that he did not understand why he had groped her breasts but suggested that he might have been curious about how they felt, a remark that added to the gravity of his misconduct.
Judge Timothy Petts, presiding over the case, sentenced Ferguson to six years of imprisonment.
The judge also ordered Ferguson to register as a sex offender for life, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes.
Additionally, Ferguson was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his future interactions with vulnerable individuals.
The court made it clear that Ferguson, who was unrepresented during the trial, would be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults in any capacity moving forward.
Judge Petts addressed the court, stating, “On several occasions, you would put your hands down her top and on her breasts.
When matters first came to light, there was a time where you denied it.” He further remarked, “It’s clear she’s been severely affected by your abuse,” highlighting the lasting impact of Ferguson’s actions on the victim.
The prosecution, led by Ryan Rothwell, revealed that the offences occurred when the victim was between 13 and 14 years old.
The girl initially reported the abuse to police in June 2017, describing how Ferguson had approached her multiple times and placed his hands down her top, touching her breasts.
The court heard that the victim recalled experiencing pain during some of these incidents, which lasted approximately a minute each time.
Despite the abuse, she chose to remain silent initially, waiting for Ferguson to stop before she could react.

Rothwell explained that Ferguson sometimes engaged in friendly conversation with the girl while touching her, which added a disturbing layer to the abuse.
Ferguson was interviewed at the time but denied any wrongdoing, and the case was not pursued further then.
It was only after a voluntary interview in June 2018 that Ferguson admitted he did not know why he had assaulted her but speculated that he might have been curious about how her breasts felt.
The victim, in a heartfelt impact statement, expressed how the abuse had affected her in various ways, underscoring the profound and lasting trauma inflicted by Ferguson’s actions.
The court also noted that Ferguson’s criminal record was limited, but there was concern that he might have committed these offences while serving a 12-month community order in 2008 for an unrelated matter, raising questions about his pattern of behavior.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding minors and the devastating consequences of sexual abuse, with the justice system taking firm action to protect vulnerable individuals and hold offenders accountable.
