FARTOWN MAN IN COURT AFTER DRUNKEN ATTACK ON HIS PARTNER OVER AFFAIR CLAIMS
Thomas Coyne, of Alder Street in Fartown, assaulted his partner of two years Denise Moriarty in front of their infant. He admitted the attack, which came after a long drinking binge, when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates in Huddersfield yesterday.
The pair had spent the afternoon at a local pub, and following an argument between them, Coyne followed Miss Moriarty home with his cousin Anthony Murray.
Coyne then grabbed her and pushed her into a door frame, before grabbing her around the throat and slapping her in the face, causing her lip to bleed.
The argument went upstairs, and their child was screaming.
Murray followed them and caused some damage to the bathroom door.
Coyne then took the child out of bed and left the address, after which police were called and they were arrested nearby.
Miss Moriarty suffered bruising, a cut, swollen lip, and scratches on her shoulder.
Coyne claimed he had been verbally abused and in his temper, which was fueled by alcohol, he damaged the door.
He admitted in interview that he had been angry at his partner and had been drinking all day from 2pm.
His past offences include driving over the limit and being drunk and disorderly.
Magistrates gave Coyne an £80 fine and ordered him to pay £85 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
A full pre-sentence report was ordered, with Coyne next scheduled to appear before the court on May 24.
His bail conditions include not contacting Miss Moriarty nor going within 100 metres of Alder Street in Fartown.
