COURT SENTENCES FARTOWN MAN FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND DISTURBING THE PEACE
A 25-year-old man named James Wood was involved in an incident where he assaulted his partner after she tried to escape their Fartown home. The victim, who was terrified of her attacker, smashed a window to get out but was injured by the broken glass.
Wood then pulled her back inside, ordered her to clean up the broken glass, and later instructed her to help move the wardrobe to cover the broken window.
When she refused, he threw peas at her and commanded her to do so again.
She pretended to comply but managed to unlock the door and run into a friend's house to call the police.
The court was told that Wood had previously been involved in domestic violence, smashing the house and assaulting his partner after drinking.
On June 15, after returning from a night out, he argued with his father and sister and then assaulted his partner again, pushing her with both hands, blocking her from leaving, slapping her twice to her chin, and refusing to let her out.
The victim finally escaped and hid in a bush, where Wood followed and shouted "There's no point hiding." He was drunk and smoked cannabis at the time.
Wood admitted to the assault, which was described as 'unpleasant,' and said he had been drinking and that alcohol mixed with his medication for depression did not help.
The judge acknowledged the incident was terrifying but limited the sentence, opting for a community order with up to 30 rehabilitation days.
Wood was also ordered to pay a fine of £150, court costs of £85, and a victim surcharge of £85.
