THOMAS CHANT SENTENCED IN DERBY AND DROYLSDEN FOR SEX OFFENSES AGAINST CHILD
In a significant legal development, Thomas Chant, a 30-year-old resident of the Quadrant in Droylsden, has been sentenced to serve five years in prison following his conviction for a serious sexual offence involving a minor. The case, which drew considerable attention from the local community in Derby and Droylsden, culminated in a trial at Derby Crown Court where Chant was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16.Chant's criminal conduct took place while he was camping in Derby, an act that has left a lasting impact on the victim and her family. The court's verdict not only resulted in a five-year imprisonment but also mandated Chant to register as a sex offender indefinitely. Additionally, he was issued a sexual offences prevention order that will remain in effect for ten years, aiming to prevent any further harm and protect the community.
The mother of the young girl, who was the victim in this case, expressed her relief and a sense of justice being served. She stated, “The sentence was fair. I believe it is the highest he could have received with the charge he was found guilty of.” She described the emotional toll of the legal process, saying, “It was a nightmare going to court with the trial lasting a week and total trauma for our daughter and ourselves.”
She also emphasized the importance of her daughter's resilience, noting, “We have to concentrate on our daughter now. She has been amazing but has suffered so much.” The mother concluded by expressing gratitude for the support of the professionals involved, saying, “At least she will know that we, and all the professionals involved, believed her and fought hard for this outcome.”
