MAN BARRED FROM CONTACTING EX AFTER CAMPAIGN OF ABUSE
Terry Wilson, who has a history of appearing at Banff Sheriff Court over offences involving his former partner, was summoned to court again last week.During this hearing, he caused a delay by making an outburst in the courtroom.
A domestic abuser from Turriff has been prohibited from contacting his ex-partner after confessing to engaging in a period of abusive behaviour that lasted over a year.
Wilson, 38 years old, had previously appeared at Banff Sheriff Court regarding offences committed against his former partner.
Last week, during his sentencing hearing, he was ordered to stay away from her for five years after admitting to being aggressive and abusive towards her.
The court heard that Wilson’s interruption during the proceedings prompted a brief delay so his solicitor could clarify his client’s stance.
Wilson expressed a desire to turn his life around.
Described as “a jealous person,” Wilson and the woman whose identity is protected had been together for 17 years before she ended the relationship.
They share two children.
Prosecutor Kirsty Martin told the court that the woman described their relationship as “good at the start,” but things then grew worse.
She accused Wilson of being possessive and jealous, with his behaviour including shouting, threatening her, and calling her offensive names such as “f***ing b***h” and “w***e.” On one occasion, Wilson threatened to kill any man who approached her.
He also physically assaulted her, pushing her against and pinning her to a wall.
Wilson’s abusive conduct occurred between December 1, 2024, and April 16 of this year.
During the 2024 Christmas period, he threatened to physically assault her.
The woman was inside her home with the children upstairs when Wilson, downstairs, began shouting at her for reasons she did not understand.
There was another incident she could not specify the date of, where she was with Wilson in her home, and he asked her personal questions she refused to answer.
He reportedly said, ‘If you don’t tell me I’m going to punch you in the f***ing face.” Wilson’s solicitor, Patrick O’Dea, interrupted the court at this point, denying the allegations as untrue and claiming they were lies.
Ms Martin added that Wilson also accused his ex of seeing other men instead of working, and once confronted her physically to prevent her from leaving the house.
He also confiscated her mobile phone, claiming he intended to “ruin her life.” When police examined the phone, Wilson apologized, saying he “shouldn’t have” taken it but was “upset.” Sheriff Robert McDonald paused the proceedings briefly to give O’Dea a chance to clarify his client’s position, and to address other court matters.
Upon resuming, O’Dea stated that Wilson wished to apologise for his outburst.
Wilson, from Knockie Road in Turriff, expressed remorse and indicated he was ready to proceed.
He said he regrets the incidents involving his ex-partner and aims to improve his life and be a better father.
The sheriff, despite noting Wilson’s prior record, decided on a non-custodial sentence.
Wilson was ordered to stay away from his ex for five years, undertake a one-year supervision order, and complete 180 hours of unpaid community work during that time.
