MATISS VINGENS FROM TURRIF SENTENCED AFTER ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR IN ABERDEEN
Matiss Vingens, a 30-year-old resident of Ardinn Terrace in Turriff, was recently found guilty in Aberdeen Sheriff Court of a series of abusive acts directed towards his partner, actions that ultimately resulted in her sustaining injuries. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of violence and verbal abuse that Vingens subjected his partner to over a period of time.According to court reports, Vingens repeatedly assaulted his partner in various ways, often calling her derogatory names such as 'useless' and subjecting her to physical violence on numerous occasions. One particularly troubling incident occurred in February 2020, shortly after the birth of their child. During this episode, Vingens became enraged when his partner refused to engage in sexual activity. His anger culminated in him forcibly pushing her onto the bed and screaming in her face, leaving her visibly shocked and frightened by the ordeal.
Further incidents included a drunken altercation where Vingens grabbed her arm and squeezed her neck, actions that caused her pain and distress. During this same incident, he also deliberately dropped her mobile phone, valued at around £700, smashing it on the ground. The court also heard about an incident in December 2022, where after another disagreement about sex, Vingens grabbed her jaw, causing her to bleed. On Christmas Day, he physically assaulted her again by pushing her head into a pillow and slapping her multiple times.
The most severe act of violence was reported at 2:30 am when Vingens asked his partner to make sandwiches. When she refused, he returned to the scene with a pot of pasta and threw it at her, hitting her on the head. This incident prompted her to call the police, leading to his arrest. Vingens pleaded guilty to a course of abusive behavior towards his partner, as well as to a separate charge of assaulting a young child.
During the court proceedings, it was noted that Vingens has since made efforts to turn his life around, including nearly abstaining from alcohol. In sentencing, Sheriff Ian Wallace decided on a community-based penalty, ordering Vingens to complete 210 hours of unpaid work instead of serving time in custody. The court also considered the wishes of the woman, who expressed a desire to maintain their relationship, and therefore, no non-harassment order was issued against Vingens.
