MOUNTAIN ASH MAN GETS LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF HIS GIRLFRIEND
Terry Trevor Andrews, aged 36 and a resident of Pentwyn Avenue in Matthewstown, Mountain Ash, has been convicted of murdering 20-year-old Bethan Callaghan.After an eight-day trial held at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Andrews was found guilty of the killing.
Despite his plea of not guilty, the presiding judge, Mr.
Justice John Griffths-Williams, sentenced him to a minimum term of 16 years in prison.
The incident took place on September 29 when Andrews caused fatal injuries to Bethan Callaghan at her residence.
She was discovered with severe injuries around 3 pm and subsequently died at Prince Charles Hospital.
Andrews argued that her injuries resulted from being struck by a vehicle, but the jury rejected this explanation.
Bethan’s family expressed their relief, stating, "As a family, we have endured eight months of pain and anxiety, but today we can finally lay Bethan to rest knowing justice has been served." They also took the opportunity to encourage victims of domestic abuse to seek help, highlighting the importance of speaking out against violence in relationships.
Police Inspector Mark Lewis of South Wales Police shared his condolences with Bethan’s family and reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to addressing domestic violence and supporting victims.
