CAGE FIGHTER, 22, JAILED FOR STRANGLING PARTNER AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An "aggressive bully" strangled his partner to the point she thought she was going to die and when she tried to flee she was involved in a minor car accident. He then called the police on her saying she had been drinking and taking cocaine.
Cailum Hill, 22, had been in a relationship with the victim since April 2025 but it began to deteriorate due to arguments and accusations of unfaithfulness.
The couple would break up and get back together despite Hill cheating on her.
A sentencing hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard Hill damaged a tablet after becoming angry during an argument on July 23 last year.
The victim was "alarmed" but forgave him.
On September 29, 2025, during another argument, Hill punched a door and then pinned the victim down on her bed, sat astride her, and grabbed her by the throat with one hand to restrict her breathing.
He continued to strangle her for 10 to 15 seconds, causing her to think she was going to die.
After the assault, she asked him to leave, but he refused.
He followed her to the car, banging on the windows and trying to open her door.
This resulted in the victim colliding with a parked car, after which Hill called the police to complain about her driving.
He fled but later handed himself into the police.
Hill was convicted of intentional strangulation and criminal damage.
He already pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
He has 13 previous convictions including possessing a bladed article, using threatening words or behavior, criminal damage, assault, breaching restraining orders, and sending threatening messages.
He was sentenced to 27 months in prison and was also given a 10-year restraining order.
In mitigation, his lawyer said Hill had three children with previous partners, grew up with his father after his mother left, and was introduced to drugs during adolescence which affected his mental health.
The court, with Recorder Paul Lewis KC, described Hill as an "aggressive bully" during sentencing.
The article emphasizes resources for those affected by domestic violence, encouraging victims to seek help.
