BASILDON MAN FOUND GUILTY OF FIVE CHILD SEX OFFENCES & JAILED
A Basildon man has been convicted of five child sex offences, including raping a girl under the age of 16.Terry Park, 30, of no fixed abode, admitted during a trial at Southend Crown Court that he had given his teenage victim cannabis, but denied sexual impropriety.
He suggested at trial that he was being framed.
Confronted with photographs found on his mobile phone of his victim in bed, he claimed they looked staged and suggested someone else might have taken them.
He pleaded, 'I am not a monster,' claiming that everything was being taken out of context and that the images were manipulated.
The jury found him guilty of one count of raping a girl under 16 and four counts of assaulting her by penetration.
The court heard that the girl’s allegations were supported in part by messages sent during the time, which Park and the victim communicated via Snapchat.
Park argued that some messages had been faked or heavily edited, asserting that not all messages were shown.
After being reported to police, he was arrested and answered 'no comment' before being released on bail.
He later messaged a loved one, indicating thoughts of ending his life, saying he was sorry and that he believed he was incapable of the crimes due to an injury that left his right hand weak.
Despite these claims, the jury convicted him.
He is scheduled for sentencing on December 5.
