BASILDON STALKER JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN AGAINST WOMAN
A south Essex stalker has been jailed for one year after being convicted by a jury at Basildon Crown Court.Jimmy Stevens, 45, of Theydon Crescent in Basildon, denied waging a criminal campaign against a local woman but the jury didn’t believe him.He was convicted on Thursday (March 5) of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.For a month in early 2025, the court heard, he repeatedly called and messaged the woman and showed up at her property.The jury found the harassment “had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities”.Stevens was also convicted of two counts of criminal damage, both committed on March 27, 2025: damaging a parked car in Basildon and a keypad belonging to Essex Police in Southend.Recorder Kevin O’Connor sentenced Stevens to 12 months in prison and imposed a ten-year restraining order banning him from contacting his victim directly or indirectly.
He is also banned from attending any address he knows or believes the victim to live or work.
