IRISH FIREFIGHTER TERENCE CROSBIE FOUND GUILTY OF RAPING WOMAN IN BOSTON HOTEL
A Dublin firefighter has been found guilty of raping a woman in a Boston hotel room last year by a unanimous jury verdict.Mr Crosbie (38) has been held in custody for the past year-and-a-half after he was arrested while trying to board a plane following a trip by Irish firefighters to the US city for St Patrick’s Day.
Mr Crosbie faces up to 20 years in prison at a sentencing hearing set for October 30.
The judge thanked the jury of six men and six women for their work on the trial.
"Jurors, thank you for your attention and conscientiousness throughout this trial,” he began.
During the trial, Crosbie denied the rape of the then 28-year-old woman at the Omni Parker Hotel on March 14, 2024, and took the witness stand to say he “absolutely did not” rape her.
The prosecution alleged that Crosbie raped the woman in his hotel room after she had consensual sex with his roommate.
Evidence showed DNA from two male contributors was collected from the woman, but neither profile could be conclusively linked to Crosbie.
The defence argued that no trace of identifiable DNA was found linking Crosbie to the crime.
It was also highlighted that Crosbie used his trip to Boston as a cover, and CCTV footage and key card evidence showed he was the only other person besides the victim and her male companion to enter the room.
After police questioned Crosbie, he bought a plane ticket and fled to Dublin, despite claiming he would return in three days with colleagues.
The court heard Crosbie's explanation during cross-examination, where he said he felt like a “rabbit in the headlights” and suspected police had searched his hotel room before he packed and left.
