TEODOR MOLDOVEANU CAUGHT IN HARROW PAEDOPHILE HUNTER STING INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRL
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming and the risks posed by predators, Teodor Moldoveanu, a man from Harrow, North-West London, became the subject of a police investigation after falling victim to a sting operation conducted by paedophile hunters. It was revealed during a court hearing at Durham Crown Court that Moldoveanu, who was 20 years old at the time, had engaged in a series of inappropriate online communications with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl named ‘Amy18’.
The decoy profile was created on the Scout app on August 27 of the previous year, and within hours, Moldoveanu began exchanging messages with ‘Amy’, who confirmed her age as 14.
Unaware that he was speaking to an adult posing as a minor, Moldoveanu continued the conversation, which later moved to WhatsApp.
On WhatsApp, Moldoveanu sent explicit images, including a private photo he referred to as ‘Bob’, along with a 16-second video of himself performing a sexual act.
The following day, he posted another video on the platform, which also showed his face.
During these exchanges, he suggested they meet in person so he could “present Bob” to her, providing his address details and even offering her the option to stay overnight if she could not get home.
He explicitly stated that the age difference was “not a problem” for him.
Concerned by the nature of the messages, the decoy profile was reported to the police.
When authorities seized Moldoveanu’s phone, they discovered searches related to the age of consent in the UK and the legal definition of underage sex.
It was confirmed that the phone belonged to Moldoveanu, who explained it was given to him by his father, who paid the bills.
At the time of the incident, Moldoveanu was living in London, having moved from Romania four months earlier.
Court proceedings revealed that he had previously been of good character in the UK.
However, his actions led to serious charges, including attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual communication and two counts of attempting to cause a child to watch sexual activity.
Judge Ray Singh addressed the court, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the case.
He pointed out that the search terms on Moldoveanu’s phone clearly indicated he was aware the ‘child’ was 14, despite his claims of ignorance.
The judge noted that Moldoveanu did not realize he was communicating with an adult posing as a minor, but he was aware of her age and still proceeded.
As a result, Moldoveanu was sentenced to a six-month prison term, suspended for 12 months.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities with the Probation Service, perform 80 hours of unpaid community work, and adhere to a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for the same period, underlining the serious consequences of his actions.
