MAN JAILED FOR ABUSING PUPPY AND RACIAL ABUSE IN HARROW
A man was filmed abusing a Rottweiler puppy in public and racially abusing a woman who intervened.John Baldwin was seen running over the puppy’s paws on a push bike and dragging it around aggressively in North Harrow on March 27.
In the same video, the 39-year-old was seen racially abusing a woman who challenged him, calling him a “bully”.
The video was shared online, and members of the Animal Welfare Investigation Team were able to identify Baldwin.
He surrendered the puppy, Harley, who now has a happy home.
Baldwin, of Apsley Close, was later charged with causing unnecessary suffering and a racially aggravated public order offence.
He denied both charges but was found guilty at Willesden Magistrates’ Court.
On October 29, Baldwin was sentenced to 14 weeks in custody.
The court also banned him from keeping animals for five years.
Sammy Wilkinson from the Animal Welfare Investigation Team described the abuse as "horrific" and expressed satisfaction with the sentence and ban, noting Harley's successful rehabilitation in her new forever home.
