MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL RAPE AFTER FLEEING TO IRELAND
Sultan Amjad, a 23-year-old man from Longsight, has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for the crime of rape.He made an attempt to evade law enforcement by fleeing to Ireland after reports of multiple incidents of non-consensual sexual assault in September of the previous year.
The court heard how Amjad had subjected his victim to an emotionally and physically abusive relationship, during which he manipulated her financially and degraded her.
The victim, whose identity remains anonymous to protect her privacy, described feeling 'broken, afraid, and unsure' following the attacks.
Throughout the court process, Amjad's details had been circulated as a wanted person in Ireland, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
The judge also imposed a five-year restraining order against Amjad to protect the victim.
Detective Constable Sam Cullen praised her bravery in reporting the incidents and emphasized the importance of support and dignity for victims of abuse.
The court's outcome underscores the serious repercussions for offenders of sexual assault, and authorities have affirmed their commitment to investigating and acting against such crimes regardless of the passage of time.
