LONGSIGHT MAN WAHEED JAHANGIR SENTENCED FOR CHILD GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENSES IN MANCHESTER

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Longsight, Waheed Jahangir, aged 37, has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison after admitting to multiple serious charges related to child sexual exploitation. The Manchester Crown Court heard how Jahangir, a resident of Naburn Street in Longsight, engaged in manipulative and predatory behavior towards a vulnerable teenage girl, grooming her over a period of months and attempting to cover his tracks through deceitful means.

The investigation was triggered in May of the previous year when police officers spotted a missing 16-year-old girl in Jahangir’s vehicle. As law enforcement approached, they observed Jahangir making an apparent attempt to conceal himself by adjusting his trousers. The scene was further scrutinized by officers who noted the presence of numerous empty vodka bottles surrounding the vehicle, along with clear signs of sexual activity, raising immediate concerns about the nature of their interaction.

Police engaged with the teenage girl, who disclosed that Jahangir had been messaging her regularly for several months. She revealed that he would buy her alcohol, further exploiting her vulnerability. The situation escalated in August when the girl was found at Jahangir’s residence, which was again cluttered with alcohol bottles. A subsequent search of Jahangir’s home led to the seizure of a mobile phone containing indecent images of the girl, along with messages that confirmed he had been grooming her since she was 15 years old.

The messages initially indicated that Jahangir was thinking about the girl and expressed eagerness to meet her. However, as she began to refuse his advances and demands, his tone shifted to one of aggression and coercion. Jahangir was taken into custody and remanded in prison. During the investigation, authorities discovered a burner phone at the girl’s house in January 2018, which Jahangir had used to contact her from prison. In these communications, he attempted to manipulate her into lying to the police, asking her to claim that the messages he had sent before she turned 16 were merely jokes.

On Monday, Jahangir pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including grooming a minor, possessing indecent images of a child, engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. His actions have been condemned by the court, and he has now been sentenced for his reprehensible conduct, which has caused significant harm to the victim and the community of Longsight.
