SULMAN DAR FROM DAUBHILL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRLS IN BOLTON AND GREAT LEVER
Between September 2 and September 14, a disturbing case emerged involving Sulman Dar, a resident of Daubhill, who engaged in heinous acts of sexual exploitation against underage girls. The incidents unfolded after Dar met the young victims in public parks, specifically in Great Lever and Bobby Heywood Park, and subsequently lured them back to his residence under false pretenses.According to court proceedings, Dar, who previously received an official warning from police under the Child Abduction Act in 2010 after police found a 14-year-old girl visiting his house, continued his predatory behavior last summer. He enticed two 15-year-old girls into his home on Auburn Street, Daubhill, by offering them alcohol and other inducements. The court heard that Dar met the first girl and her friend in Bobby Heywood Park, where he gained their trust before inviting them to his house. To conceal the presence of the girls, Dar instructed them to enter through a back gate and stay away from the windows, an act described by the prosecution as an attempt to hide his activities.
Two days after their initial visit, the same girl returned with two friends, where Dar provided alcohol again. He then engaged in sexual activity with her in his upstairs bedroom. The second victim, also 15 years old, was met in the same park and invited back to Dar’s home along with her friends, aged 12 and 14. The girls consumed so much alcohol that they became physically sick, and Dar proceeded to have sex with the 15-year-old girl in his bedroom. These acts were uncovered when police arrested Dar in January of this year, during which they discovered explicit photographs of teenage girls on his phone, along with WhatsApp messages and sexually explicit texts sent to a third girl.
During the court hearing, the two victims provided emotional testimonies, describing how the crimes had profoundly affected their mental health and academic performance. Prosecutor Sarah Johnston emphasized that Dar’s actions demonstrated a pattern of predatory behavior, with the girls being particularly vulnerable due to their age and circumstances.
Defense attorney Kathryn Johnson argued that Dar, who has been isolated in Bolton without family support, did not intentionally set out to get the girls drunk for sexual purposes. However, Judge Peter Davies was unequivocal in his sentencing, highlighting the vulnerability of the victims and Dar’s lack of remorse. The judge stated, “They were crying out for help — they were not crying out for sexual exploitation,” and added, “You took a gamble that they would not be believed. You believed you could behave with impunity.”
As part of his punishment, Dar was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual activity with two 15-year-old girls. Additionally, he was handed a sexual offences prevention order that will last for ten years, and he will be registered as a sex offender indefinitely.
Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Pete Astbury from Bolton’s child exploitation unit commended the bravery of the victims for coming forward. He remarked, “Dar displayed all the classic hallmarks of a sexual predator and perpetrator of child sexual exploitation,” emphasizing the importance of their courage in seeking justice.
