STUART BACK FROM GUILDFORD SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGE DOWNLOADS
In a case that has shocked the community of Guildford, a local man named Stuart Back, aged 35, has been found guilty of serious offenses involving the possession and download of indecent images of children.The incident came to light in early January when Back's mobile phone was inadvertently left unattended, and a friend discovered disturbing photographs stored on the device.
This discovery prompted immediate action, leading to Back's arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
According to court records, the images were downloaded on January 6, and the authorities swiftly moved to investigate.
Back faced multiple charges, including three counts of downloading indecent images of children and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image or video.
During the trial, he pleaded guilty to all charges, acknowledging his involvement in these criminal activities.
On April 5, at Guildford Crown Court, Back was sentenced to nine months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years.
This means he will not serve time immediately, provided he complies with certain conditions set by the court.
The judge's decision drew mixed reactions from the community and the victim's family, with some feeling the punishment was insufficient given the severity of the crimes.
The case has also deeply affected Cathy Harding, a 53-year-old resident of Guildford, who is the mother of Back's former partner.
Mrs Harding expressed her distress and disappointment over the situation, speaking openly about her initial impressions of Back.
She stated, “When I first met Back, I thought he was friendly and chatty.
But as I got to know him better, I realized he was a waste of space.” Mrs Harding described the emotional toll the case has taken on her family, especially her daughter, who was in a relationship with Back until about three years ago.
Despite their breakup, the daughter maintained contact with Back, and she later discovered that he had stored indecent images on his phone.
Back claimed he saved the images to report them to the police, but Mrs Harding's daughter was skeptical and believed he had a different motive.
She insisted that he should have reported the images immediately, and as far as she knew, he had done so.
Further details emerged when Mrs Harding revealed that in January, Back’s phone was left unattended, and a friend found the horrific images stored on it.
The phone was handed over to her daughter, who then reported Back to the police.
This chain of events ultimately led to his arrest and prosecution.
In addition to the suspended prison sentence, the court imposed several strict conditions on Back.
He is now prohibited from working with children, and his phone and computers have been confiscated.
He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for two years and must register as a sex offender for the next ten years.
The court also ordered him to complete 120 hours of unpaid community service, undertake 30 days of rehabilitation activities, and pay a victim surcharge of £140.
