ADAM FAIRFOOT SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND VIOLENT ASSAULT IN GUILDFORD

A man identified as Adam Fairfoot has been sentenced to 11.5 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious offences, including rape, voyeurism, and making threats to share explicit images of a victim. The trial, which lasted a week, took place at Guildford Crown Court, where the jury found Fairfoot guilty of all charges.

Fairfoot, aged 31 and originally from Leeds, committed his heinous acts in August 2024, shortly after knowing his victim for only a few weeks. The assault occurred at her residence in Guildford, where he attacked her in a fit of jealousy. During the assault, he physically assaulted her by punching her in the face and forcefully hitting her head against a wall. When she attempted to scream for help, Fairfoot covered her mouth and nose with his hands, threatening to kill her, which left her in a state of genuine fear for her life.

Following the attack, Fairfoot coerced the woman into her own vehicle and drove away, heading towards West Yorkshire. During the journey, he callously discarded her phone out of the car on the motorway. At some point along the route, he pulled over, stole all the money she had, and then fled the scene. Despite this, the victim managed to summon the courage to drive away from the scene and flag down a passing member of the public, who assisted her in contacting the police.

In court, the survivor delivered a powerful and emotional statement, describing the profound impact the assault has had on her life. She stated, "I am here today as a survivor, but barely holding on. I want to share what this experience has done to me - not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and financially. I’m not standing before you as the person I used to be. That person—the one who had hope, peace, and a sense of direction, was taken away from me." She emphasized her desire for justice and understanding, expressing that her pain is ongoing and that she needs support and protection from further harm.

Judge [Name], presiding over the case, sentenced Fairfoot on Friday, 2 May, to 11.5 years of imprisonment. Additionally, he was handed a 12-year restraining order, a 12-year sexual harm prevention order, and was placed on the sex offenders register for life. The court also took into account the seriousness of his actions and the threat he poses to the community.

Detective Constable Hannah Simmonds from Surrey Police’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team commented on the case, describing Fairfoot as a dangerous individual who committed a terrifying assault driven by jealousy. She noted that Fairfoot showed no remorse, as he stormed out of the courtroom and returned to his cell during the judge’s sentencing. Simmonds praised the bravery of the survivor for coming forward and sharing her story, emphasizing that her courage is vital in the fight against sexual violence.

Simmonds also issued a call to other victims, encouraging them to report any incidents of sexual offences, assuring them that they will be believed and supported. She reaffirmed Surrey Police’s commitment to justice and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve investigations into rape cases. The police have adopted the National Operating Model, developed through Operation Soteria, to enhance the way rape and sexual offence cases are handled, aiming to make the process more effective and supportive for victims. The police’s dedication reflects a broader commitment to addressing one of the most complex and challenging areas within the criminal justice system, with a focus on meaningful change and victim support.
