STEVEN WOOD INVERURIE SEXUAL ASSAULT SENTENCE: HORRIFIC ATTACK CAPTURED ON CAMERA
A 47-year-old man from Insch, Steven Wood, has been handed a prison sentence of 16 months following a deeply disturbing and prolonged sexual assault on a woman, an incident that was recorded on a pet camera installed in her home. The assault unfolded in the victim’s residence, where Wood forcibly pulled her onto a sofa before initiating his attack. He then proceeded to remove her clothing and subjected her to repeated sexual acts against her will. The entire ordeal was captured on video footage, which included the victim’s desperate pleas for him to stop. She begged him more than 100 times, with six distinct cries of "leave me alone" and five commands of "get off." Throughout the assault, she repeatedly told him "no" and pleaded "don't touch me," highlighting her clear resistance and distress.
Following the attack, Wood sent a series of messages via WhatsApp, attempting to shift blame onto the victim. In these messages, he expressed remorse and confusion, stating things like "Sorry I just want you," and questioning her actions with comments such as "Why did you not push me away ... I feel so bad now." Despite his guilty plea at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, Wood’s behavior shortly afterward appeared contradictory. He was seen publicly dancing at a venue in Inverurie, as evidenced by a Facebook video, which drew criticism given the seriousness of his crime.
The court proceedings revealed that Wood had arrived at the woman’s house on November 26 of the previous year. Despite her clear discomfort and her informing him that she was on her period, he persisted in trying to kiss and cuddle her. The victim activated a Ring camera during the incident, which recorded the assault that lasted approximately 20 minutes. She subsequently reported the incident to the police, providing the footage as evidence, which led to Wood’s immediate arrest.
During the court hearing, Wood admitted to charges of sexual assault, making sexually explicit remarks, and performing a sex act without consent. His defense team argued that he was a first-time offender and that his actions were influenced by substance use, claiming that his behavior was out of character. However, the sheriff emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that only a custodial sentence was appropriate. As a result, Wood was sentenced to 16 months in prison, placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, and issued a five-year non-harassment order to protect the victim from further contact.
