A man described as having a "sense of entitlement to sex" has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
Steven Mitchell, aged 41, denied any guilt but was found guilty last month of six crimes, including rape and sexual assault, following a trial at the High Court in Livingston, Scotland.
The offenses occurred against two women in West Lothian from 2016 to 2022.
At his sentencing, Judge Susan Craig cited a social work report which characterized Mitchell’s sexual misconduct as "chronic" and driven by a "sense of entitlement to sex." The judge noted that the report expressed concern over Mitchell’s denial of any wrongdoing and his apparent lack of willingness to change his behaviour.
The court also learned that Mitchell made threats of violence towards his victims, and the report highlighted him as being at high risk of reoffending sexually.
He was sentenced to an extended term of 13 years comprising 10 years in custody and a three-year probation period after release and was placed on the sex offenders' registry for an indefinite period.
