BURRY PORT MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AFTER PHYSICAL ATTACK ON PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND
A 41-year-old man from Burry Port, Steven McInerney, received a sentence of 18 weeks in prison after being convicted of assaulting his pregnant partner.The altercation took place during the early hours of March 29 at their residence, where the victim reported that McInerney, who had been consuming alcohol, became hostile and physically attacked her by attempting to choke her and punching her in the ribs.
She escaped the scene promptly and sought safety by calling the police.
Following the incident, she was taken to hospital for treatment.
Authorities assured the public that steps would be taken to ensure the victim and her family were protected.
McInerney was detained within two hours of the assault and faced charges including domestic assault, criminal damage, and racially motivated threats against officers.
He admitted guilt to all charges and was sentenced on April 14, which included the prison term, a restraining order forbidding contact with the victim for two years, and orders to pay compensation and court costs.
