BRETT SIMMS FROM BURRY PORT SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ANIMAL CRUELTY IN LLANELLI

Brett Paul Simms, born on September 1, 1975, and residing at 36F Gelli Road in Burry Port, Llanelli SA14 9AT, was convicted of a heinous act of animal cruelty that shocked the local community. The incident involved the violent assault and subsequent killing of a two-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Zac.

According to reports, the incident occurred after Zac allegedly entered Simms's partner's garden and caused the death of several chickens. In response, Simms confronted the dog and launched a brutal attack. Witnesses described how Simms punched Zac and then stamped on him with such force that the dog succumbed to his injuries. The cruelty did not end there; after the attack, Simms callously threw Zac's lifeless body over the garden fence, where a group of children was playing nearby.

The magistrates overseeing the case condemned Simms's actions, emphasizing the severity of the crime. They stated that such acts of violence against animals are serious offenses that warrant custodial punishment. The court also acknowledged the emotional distress caused to the children and other witnesses who saw Zac being thrown over the fence, highlighting the broader impact of the incident on the community.

Following the sentencing, RSPCA inspector Neill Manley expressed his outrage, describing the case as one of the worst animal welfare offenses he had encountered. He stated, “This was a monstrous crime, one of the worst animal welfare offences I have ever come across and the defendant fully deserves this sentence.”

It was also revealed that Simms had a prior criminal record, having served four months in prison in 2010 for assault. His recent conviction resulted in an 18-week jail sentence. Additionally, the court imposed a five-year ban on Simms owning or keeping any dog, a restriction that expired in 2017.

This case has once again brought to light the importance of animal welfare and the need for strict penalties against those who commit such acts of cruelty. The community in Burry Port and Llanelli continues to mourn the loss of Zac and hopes that justice serves as a deterrent to others.
