‘Dangerous’ sex offender jailed for six years for raping two womenPolice called Steven Haggerty a “dangerous individual who preyed on vulnerable young women”.The 28-year-old from Hamilton has been sentenced to six years and an Order for Lifelong Restriction for numerous offences, including raping two previous partners.Steven Haggerty, of Hamilton, was convicted in April this year following an investigation by Police Scotland’s Domestic Abuse Taskforce.Detective Chief Inspector Samantha McCluskey, head of the taskforce, called Haggerty a “dangerous individual who preyed on vulnerable young women”.She added: “The two victims in this case were previous partners of Haggerty, who were brave enough to speak out about the serious sexual violence they endured at his hands.
Following his custodial sentence, he will be monitored by the authorities for the rest of his life.“He is finally being brought to account for his actions, and I hope that this result brings some form of closure for his victims, who have shown real courage in coming forward and going through this difficult process.“I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who is, or has experienced domestic abuse, in any form, to come forward and report what has happened.
