BLACKPOOL MAN WITH PSYCHOSIS JAILED FOR VIOLENT RAPE DURING PSYCHOTIC EPISODE
A man suffering from schizophrenia and under the influence of drugs committed a violent rape on a woman in her home after experiencing hallucinations.
Steven Grocock, aged 45 and residing on Queens Promenade, Blackpool, was sentenced to eight years in prison with an additional three years on license after a judge deemed him a dangerous offender.
The court heard that Grocock assaulted the woman twice, attempting to suffocate her with a gag and asking her, “Do you like it?” He then left the scene calling for help and falsely claimed to the police that the woman had been gang raped and overdosed, describing her as being in a severely distressed state.
The victim recounted her experience as being 'the closest I've been to death in all my life.' The court was told that Grocock's actions were influenced by paranoid psychosis exacerbated by drug abuse.
The judge emphasized the violence and the humiliating nature of the assault, stating Grocock was in a deranged mental state.
As part of his sentence, Grocock is required to register as a sex offender for life and is banned from contacting the victim indefinitely.
