CAERAU MAN SENTENCED AFTER THREATENING EX-PARTNER AND DAMAGING HER PROPERTY
Steven Driscoll, aged 57 and residing on Neyland Place in Caerau, engaged in a series of malicious acts aimed at his former partner.This woman, with whom he had a six-year relationship ending in 2022, was left frightened after Driscoll contacted her friends and sent threatening messages.
He threatened to share details about her 'wrongdoings' and 'sexual favours' on social media, warning he would 'ruin her, full stop'.
On October 21, 2023, Driscoll sent a voice message to her friend, which contained an argument during which she admitted to 'various wrongdoings', as claimed by Driscoll.
The court was told that he made multiple threats, including revealing her supposed 'fabricated behaviour' and posting about her 'alleged wrongdoings'.
On November 5, 2023, he caused damage to her property by throwing a garden ornament at her window, breaking both the ornament and the window sill.
He also damaged her car, scratching it with a key, resulting in £2,000 in repairs.
Over a period of three weeks beginning November 2, 2023, Driscoll sent numerous messages to her friend, warning her to contact him or he would expose her 'sexual favours' and ruin her reputation.
He further threatened to 'destroy' her, claiming she would 'lose her job and her house'.
The police detained him following these events.
He pleaded guilty to charges of criminal damage and malicious communications.
Driscoll has a criminal record with 16 prior convictions, including for drink driving and operating a vehicle without a license or insurance, with the latest in 2018.
The court sentenced him to an 18-month community order, which includes a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement, a 90-day curfew, and a three-year restraining order against the victim.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay £500 in costs.
