LOCHGELLY MAN STEVEN DICK FOUND GUILTY OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AGAINST WOMAN IN COWDENBEATH
A resident of Lochgelly has been officially convicted of a series of domestic abuse incidents targeting a woman over a span of fifteen months.Steven Dick, a 46-year-old man, was involved in a pattern of violent and abusive actions at an address located in Cowdenbeath, which ultimately led to his conviction.
The case detailed a particularly severe incident that occurred in August 2022.
During an argument between Dick and the woman, he physically assaulted her by grabbing her hair with force and repeatedly smashing her head against the corner of a wall.
This brutal assault resulted in a significant laceration on her scalp.
Despite the severity of the injury, the woman managed to clean the wound and shower without seeking immediate medical attention.
In addition to this, Dick threw a trainer at her head and kicked her on other occasions, further demonstrating a pattern of violent behavior.
Prior to the August incident, there were other episodes of violence.
In April 2021, Dick kicked the woman in the leg, causing noticeable bruising.
Later that same year, in November, he threw a trainer that struck her temple, again leaving her with bruising.
These earlier assaults were not initially reported to the authorities but came to light when a friend of the woman reported the incidents to the police in September 2022.
Throughout their relationship, Dick also made derogatory remarks towards the woman, adding a layer of emotional abuse to the physical violence.
The court heard these details during the trial, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the abusive behavior.
At the sentencing hearing, the court imposed several penalties on Dick.
He was sentenced to a five-month curfew, placed under a year of offender supervision, and mandated to complete the Caledonian programme for domestic abuse.
Additionally, he was prohibited from contacting the woman for a period of two years.
His legal representative acknowledged that Dick had previous convictions; however, these were not extensive.
Nonetheless, the court highlighted the disturbing pattern of abusive conduct, which influenced the severity of the sentence.
