STEVE BEDDOES BUSTED IN BASINGSTOKE FOR 23 CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Basingstoke, a local man named Steven Beddoes has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of minors. The offences, which spanned over a decade and a half, involved three children—two girls and one boy—whom Beddoes targeted between 1999 and 2014 in various locations within the Basingstoke area.Beddoes, aged 46 and residing on St Peter’s Road in the South Ham district of Basingstoke, faced a total of 24 charges related to sexual misconduct. These charges included serious allegations such as rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, and acts of indecency with a child. The gravity of these accusations underscored the severity of the crimes committed, which had a profound impact on the victims and their families.
Throughout his trial at Winchester Crown Court, which concluded at the end of August, Beddoes maintained his innocence, denying each of the 24 offences brought against him. Despite his denials, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of 23 of these charges. The verdict was delivered after a thorough examination of the evidence and testimonies presented during the trial.
On Friday, November 18, Judge Susan Evans handed down a significant sentence, sentencing Beddoes to 20 years in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, the judge imposed an extended licence period of six years, ensuring that Beddoes would be subject to strict supervision upon his release. Furthermore, the court mandated that he be registered on the sexual offenders register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities to protect the community from potential harm in the future.
