TEACHER BANNED FROM PROFESSION INDEFINITELY
The TRA panel reviewed the claims outlined in the notice of hearing issued on 15 September 2025.It was contended that Mr Battye engaged in conduct that was unacceptable within his professional role and/or actions that could potentially damage the reputation of the profession, specifically: 1.
During approximately from 07 January 2019 to 24 May 2019, while working as a teacher at Brighton Hill School, he: a) Made inappropriate, unprofessional, and/or sexual remarks to or about one or more pupils as detailed in Schedule 1; b) Swore on multiple occasions either in front of or around pupils; c) Infringed upon Pupil H’s personal space by approaching her face.

Between roughly September 2019 and 31 July 2021, while employed at The Romsey School, he: a) Made inappropriate, unprofessional, and/or sexual comments to or about certain pupils as specified in Schedule 2; b) Made inappropriate or unprofessional gestures directed at pupils or regarding them as outlined in Schedule 3.

Between approximately 07 January 2019 and 24 May 2019, he called Pupil H "my angel" or similar words on one or more occasions; 2.
During the same period, he discussed different terms for vaginas with pupils and/or walked around saying "minge;" 3.
When Pupil H asked him a question, he responded with "yes minge" or similar; 4.
He inquired "who needs lubrication then" or words to that effect with pupils; 5.
When Pupil H asked for a match to light a Bunsen burner, he replied, "you can't have a match but you know what is a match, my ass and your face, or your ass and my face" or similar words.

Around 07 November 2020, he told Pupil B, "[Pupil B] why haven’t you shrunk?
Penises shrink in the cold, so I wonder why you haven’t," or words to that effect; 2.
On an unknown date between September 2019 and 31 July 2021, after sending Pupil B out of class, he made a remark calling Pupil B "a little dick" or similar; 3.
Throughout this period, he addressed Pupil B with terms like "twat" or "knob"; 4.
On unknown occasions between September 2019 and 31 July 2021, he commented on Pupil B’s genital size, saying he had a "small dick" or “small todger”; 5.
Around 20 November 2020, he told Pupil C and/or Pupil D, “blow on it harder… no, not like that, you’ve got a dirty mind,” and/or “Pupil D knows how to blow it”; words to that effect; 6.
Between September 2020 and 31 July 2021, he remarked to Pupil D that he "would have given her a grade 9 if she had been nicer to him" or similar.

Around 13 November 2020, he used his fingers to swear by positioning them as an "atom" or "compound" while explaining science concepts; 2.
When discussing Pupil B and making a comment about his genitals, he held up or waved his little finger.
Mr Battye did not admit any facts formally prior to the hearing.
He was however, banned from teaching indefinitely.
