ABUSER WHO STRANGLED HIS PARTNER AND ASSAULTED POLICE OFFICER IS JAILED
A man responsible for strangling his partner and later assaulting the arresting police officer has been sentenced to prison.Stephen McCLean initially attacked the woman at her residence in Belper following an argument between the two.
During the assault, he forcibly pushed her head against a wall, pulled out clumps of her hair, and then forced her to the ground, where he continued to strangle her until she lost consciousness.
Once she woke up, she was able to resist and escape the situation.
After the incident, McCLean was detained and taken to hospital due to excessive drug intake.
While waiting for medical attention, he displayed aggressive behaviour and had to be restrained on the floor.
During this altercation, he also bit a police officer on the hand.
The 43-year-old resident of Gladstone Street, Heanor, faced charges of malicious strangulation and assaulting a emergency worker.
He pleaded guilty to these charges and appeared at Derby Crown Court for sentencing on May 7, where he received a 16-month prison term.
Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting the woman involved.
